The Daintree Rainforest
The Daintree Rainforest is located in North Queensland and is only a two hour drive from Cairns. It is over 1200 kilometers in size and is believed to be over 135 million years old, which makes it the oldest tropical lowland rainforest on earth! The Daintree gained its official World Heritage Listing back on the 9th of December, 1988. 28% of frogs, 40% of birds, 34% of mammals and 65% of ferns in Australia can be found in the Daintree Rainforest. One of the native fauna in the rainforest is Boyd's Rainforest Dragons which are usually found hanging on tree trunks waiting on prey. Another native animal is the famous Green Tree Frog which cannot be found in Victoria or Tasmania. Daintree has some of the biggest tropical trees in the world, including Cauliflory, Daintree Fan Palm, Selaginella and Native Hibiscus. Its vegetation zone is obviously a rainforest.
